CURRENT AFFAIRS This group looks in depth at current issues, ranging from local to national and international issues. Last year’s topics included ‘Whither Democracy?’, ‘The Future Funding of the BBC’, ‘Lessons from the 1975 Referendum’, and ‘The Budget’. A member (or occasionally two working together) prepares a talk and leads the discussion on a topic, and the other members then join in, using, where appropriate, their own varied experiences. |

EUROPE TODAY We study the lifestyles and culture of European states. Each session, we choose one subject to which all members contribute. In 2014/15, we shall be making a study of schooling systems throughout Europe. At other meetings talks are led by members. This results in vigorous discussion about the issues raised. Our objective is to relate other national practices and attitudes to those found in the UK. The group meets October to May. |

We explore, discuss and try to understand some of the many world faiths, such as Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism and more. The Group started in 2018 and has 10 enthusiastic members. We generally meet in each others houses where one of our members tells us about a faith in which they are interested and have researched. Sometimes this is a PowerPoint presentation, but does not have to be. We sometimes arrange a Group outing - for example to the Sikh Gurdwara in Gravesend.
Britain is a multi-faith country and we want to try an learn about the various religions with which we are surrounded.

STOCK MARKET DISCUSSION If you want to learn about stocks and shares with little financial commitment, then come and join us. We take a light-hearted approach to the subject. Members choose one or two stocks, keep them for two months maximum, then change. A small sum goes into the kitty, then the member with the largest virtual profit in 9 months wins the kitty. |
